Displaying a variety of illustration and graphic styles I do, some reflect the particular client's expectations, some bread'n'butter work and some, well, let's say Whatever floats y'boat stylewise.

Frog Story

My illustrated retelling of the classic joke guaranteed to put kids from ages 3 to 103 into a total giggle fit when you tell it like the Wide Mouth Frog tells it.  Click the image pops out the full monty as a pdf doc! -

PDF doc complete kiddy-book read!

Utales invited me to create on their ebook platform way back in 2010 (now defunct).
Writing and Illustrating took me about 5 weeks.  I uploaded the artwork and formatted the words and font - which layout was rather limited back then.  Anyway here's a few of my favourite spreads -

Dark designs

Joseph Conrad's seminal novel Heart of Darkness as Graphic-Novel in colour!   Here's 3 fullpage illustrations and cover art  -

Cover concept.

My reading of Conrad’s narrative was visualising his story as more of a Ripping Yarn Adventure Tale inkeeping with the his serialised reports for popular magazines of the 1890s who's readers then were hungry for news about unexplored regions of the world, especially from deep within the mysterious dark interior of continental Africa.

1, Here Marlow - Steamboat Captain, learns about the rogue company-man Kurtz is, when he's told about his return up-river immediately after dropping off yet another record breaking load of Ivory -

'I seemed to see Kurtz for the first time.'

2, Here Marlow's knackered paddle steamer is attacked by those godless Savages as it navigates the treacherous snags in the Congo's fast flowing river currents -

'Arrows, by Jove! We were being shot at!'

3, Eventually the steamer arrives at the company's Inner-Station where Marlow encounters the sick Kurtz crawling through long grass while the Savages get increasingly more restless -

'I came upon him, and, if he had not heard me coming, I would have fallen over him too.'

Cropped detail -

Pulped

Pulp Detective illustrated shortstory magazine aimed at young readers got pulped by its backer/distributer on 3rd issue before it had a chance to succeed.  On accepting this regular illustrating gig, I asked its Editor 'There's nothing quite like this in the market so how can you be sure this will fly?'  'We've done our research' was his matter-of-fact answer.  So naturally I jumped on board.

After completing the ilos for issue#1, the commission remit changed!  Though I still had free range in picking which 10 scenes from a story to illustrate, I was now tasked to provide artwork with heavily detailed backgrounds at A4 size even though the Mag' was smaller A5, just so cropped portions could be positioned in page layouts.  My queries were summarily ignored and I accepted the extra workload because the subject matter is fascinating and pay was good.  Was quite relieved though when this venture got the bullit.

Infomaticus PDF

I answered an ad calling for an Illustrator who could produce isometric vector artwork of a factory floor.  'Please send examples you've done', it said.  Well, any opportunity to show-off my scars, so I dusted off some old backup CDs and pulled whatever looked remotely isometric then arranged the pics over 9 pages of my newest PDF: infomatics-djim.pdf (download size: 3.3MB), in it you'll see my CV and blurb, well worth keeping and sharing amongst your Commissioning Art Director chums!

Will know more in a week or so if I'll be Gridding this Area-51 of my Creative Outputs any time soonish.

A bunch of vector icons I did for a local marketing company for a paper manufacturer to be used as Stickers -
