I'm playing with photoshop's Frames animator thing to establish a workflow

These little graphics were originally part of a commissioned set of fun vector icons for printed sticker-sheets.

What better way to show them off!

Runner Up again!

My design for The Warren's 2020 festival brochure -

Their full Brief here but in short they wanted something bold, colourful that
conveys the festy's spirit, and also include a depiction of their entrance signage.  So I consulted that internet for inspiration to come up with the artwork.  Here's some close-ups -

It's vector art with an overlay pixel-image of grit-texture manipulated so looks blockprinted in a subtle way, well that's the effect I was aiming for.

Also made a Local-Map intended for their inside back page.  Though wasn't part of the Brief, was anyway the opportunity to show-off me skills -

The Map started life as screengrabbed google-map sections stitched together in photoshop for use as template for tracing over streets in adobe's Illustrator program, then brought that back into ph' for texturing-up and skewing the angle and adding the venue's location as indicated by their bunny logo popping out of its burrow!

Turnaround time was 2 weeks for both pics - as I only sighted their tweet announcing the call for submissions prior to deadline then.  Well, my presentation pdf was their Runner-Up!  Not for the first time, I was their runner-up for the commission last year too! which is Nice but adds up to 1600 fictional quid abducted by aliens.  There y'go.

I've bolstered my Wiredsussex Profile since they revamped their platform so please check me out there!

Human Cannonball Freak

Rebrand callout answered with my proposal for the Brighton Fringe Festival brochure cover.  The Brief's objectives called for a design to include the theme Dive In and a 12 colour-code to distinguish the 12 types of venue/page-sections, and a flourish added to existing title logo, and that it must be all vector artwork -

I didn't get the callback I was banking on but hey maybe the marketing team might just pickup on my layout and well, in any case will have to wait till January's campaign reveal for my warm fuzzy feeling.

More recently, just last week in fact, I submitted this alternative film poster, see in context here with comments which makes for some interesting conversation about artistic license.

Anyway was the needed motivation to sort out me photoshop brushes.  Still it needs some atmospheric fog and the guard on the left needs a ground shadow, and maybe drop in a UFO, dunno, I haven't seen the movie.  Maybe I should, Bruce Dern plays the Icecream vanman.  Oh yeah!

2 Sliders

Watch my life's work whizz by!
I have just discovered a Slideshow Player with knobs on.  Here's 2 presentations set to autoflick so you can sit back while reviewing my client jobs + the roughs!..

Yup, I'll be composting more eyecandy Flickies just because I got heaving drawers stuffed with very different chest-beating graphic styles that could use slicker presentation (packaging is content is it not).  Only you can stall my unrelenting progress by immediately enquiring into my availability for your project so let's chat and see what's possible!

LED Icons

I was asked to provide vector icons for new range of LED Lighting -

Icon Graphics
LightfootLED provided the ref-photos and their website indicated colour and style needed.

My thanks to Andy Whales of My Talking Drum for the initial contact.

To boldly go

--- update ---

Neil Laughton asked ''Could you please create another drawing depicting "courage" in the same style as the others? Required for a charity talk''.  Might get a bit tricky I thought, there's kinds of courage; Dutch Courage or To-boldly-go-where-no-man-has-gone-before?  So I put the question to Neal and he replied ''.. more about facing your fear and taking that first step. Jumping out of a place with a parachute or climber clinging on to a vertical cliff face or someone stepping into the unknown?''  Okay, that narrows my search though coming up with the right visual to compliment the 9 illustrated Success Factors already done wasn't so easy but then I found a ref pic of a Tightrope Walker, this seemed to display the Right Stuff, after all, any idiot can leap out of a perfectly serviceable aeroplane.  So then I presented Neil with some pencil roughs and eventually arrived at the 10th!

Cartoon about Integrity
One more illustration was needed to complete a powerpoint-presentation, this time to MDs at the Institute of Directors for Laughton & Co - a leading business consultancy, coaching and training academy.  He wanted a cartoon to be in keeping with the others. So we had a chat and I then sketched this idea -
Some suggestions were made and I then followed up with another sketch -
Neil liked this a lot except that he preferred that the final pic have a cheesy smile added.
Lovely little job.

Infomaticus PDF

I answered an ad calling for an Illustrator who could produce isometric vector artwork of a factory floor.  'Please send examples you've done', it said.  Well, any opportunity to show-off my scars, so I dusted off some old backup CDs and pulled whatever looked remotely isometric then arranged the pics over 9 pages of my newest PDF: infomatics-djim.pdf (download size: 3.3MB), in it you'll see my CV and blurb, well worth keeping and sharing amongst your Commissioning Art Director chums!

Will know more in a week or so if I'll be Gridding this Area-51 of my Creative Outputs any time soonish.

Charactors vector ilos

Just completed illustrating festival-going folk for (name undeclarable at present) tourist board -

I was asked by their marketing peeps if I could provide 8 Personas as vector illustrations soon as possible, in about a week?  Yup, reckon it's doable, I said.  I then received the brief describing 5 couples, 2 family groups and 1 group of mates.  Rather more work than I anticipated time for additional detailing like shading and highlights.  Anyway I ploughed straight in with an urgently needed example (Appy Glampers) to get approval to proceed, then on with pencil roughs of the other 7, there was much exchange of emailing roughs before vectoring the outline and colouring.  17 days later everyone was very happy with the result.

Vector icons

A bunch of vector icons I did for a local marketing company for a paper manufacturer to be used as Stickers -

Person Centred Planning

A Care Homes charity organization's area Manager friend asked me to create a Wall Poster depicting their 'promotional and training models' for display in team meetings etc.  He wanted a style not too cartoony that can transfer easily as separate diagrams.  He showed examples of the kind of chart graphics needed together with the info needing artwork.  I then penciled roughs and scanned them into Photoshop to make a template for use in Illustrator where I worked up the individual pieces then basically it was a simple matter of 'flower arranging' my info-graphic presentation -

I hoped my interpretation was instantly digestible, however his response was ..My marketing manager's now is seeing it differently to me and has the insight needed, I am more artistic rather than practical..  He lead me to believe he was supreme commander!  Anyway, needless to say I was suckered by an ol'friend and we both learned our lesson.

Greenpeace concept

Graphics design competition brief here.  Here's my effort -
Greenpeace wanted to visualize the Energy Renewables Policy (as set out by the German Parliament) in the form of a simple and friendly graph, for it to be the key Greenpeace logo regarding that policy.  I visualized my graph could be updated during the coming decades reflecting progress of the policy as it runs closer to 2050.  Also I imagined this as an App version where the user will zoom in revealing sub-divisions indicating year, month of each stage of the policy's progress, with related news links etc.  I hoped Greenpeace could develop the App and feature it as a key online marker to their 'watch campaign'.  Communicating the possibilities of a real and sustainable future needs a simple graph you can both read and use, and my logo identifies that message. You saw it here first!

A bread and butter job

Completed 2 commissions to provide over 100 b\w illustrations for OUP.  The print dimensions were small, approx' 1 to 5cm but here's some examples -

-

Schematics

FusedMarketing agency in E, Sussex were re-designing all publicity and marketing materials for a paper manufacturer in Germany. I provided all their info-graphics and schematics because I happened to be local, which was handy, so could be relied on to deliver artwork on an adhoc basis during the run of the project.  Here's a few examples -
 Paper manufacturing process ...

 Paper in use today ...
Various printing technologies ...

Info-graphics

I provided Info-graphics for Posturite(UK) Ltd, a market leader in ergonomic workplace solutions, they wanted friendly style images so their inhouse marketing dept could drop them into Training and Awareness CDs.
